About the event
The Wild Fermentation Workshop is an immersive experience designed to inspire participants of all ages to embark on a culinary adventure by exploring the world of fermented beverages, specifically fermented flower sodas and ginger beer. Â
The workshop begins with an introduction to the principles and benefits of wild fermentation. Participants will learn about the natural process of fermentation, which harnesses the power of beneficial microorganisms to transform simple ingredients into complex, flavorful beverages. Â One ferment will include a wild soda. The focus of the wild soda is on using hyperlocal yeast sources and seasonal flowers to create unique and refreshing fermented flower sodas.Â
Attendees will also discover the art of making ginger beer, a beloved traditional beverage with a zesty kick. They will learn the techniques involved in brewing ginger beer from scratch, including the preparation of the ginger bug, a wild yeast and bacteria starter culture. Participants will gain an understanding of the fermentation timeline and carbonation of the final product.  Participants are encouraged to explore the possibilities of transforming their own kitchens and backyards into hubs of fermentation and creativity. They learn how simple ingredients, passion, and a bit of experimentation can lead to a thriving homemade fermentation practice that not only provides delicious beverages but also contributes to sustainability and self-sufficiency. Â
The Wild Fermentation Workshop serves as a gateway to a world of delicious and probiotic-rich beverages, while fostering a sense of empowerment and encouraging individuals to become agents of change in their own kitchens and communities. Â Participants will be provided all materials and will be required to bring their own cutting board and kitchen grater/zester.
The workshop is $55 per single participant, $50 per ticket for 2 or more, $45 each for NMU students, and includes the 2 hr workshop where each participant will walk away with a greater understanding of the process of wild fermentation and their own cultivated wild soda! There are a limited number of seats available.
If you have any questions, please send us a message! We look forward to creating with you.
